ARTIST STATEMENT

This collection of work is the result of a personal journey rooted in curiosity, persistence, and a desire to grow. As an artist, I’m drawn to the process of learning, of diving into the unknown, trying new techniques, and embracing both the success and the struggle that come with creative risk-taking. Pottery offers endless opportunities to challenge myself, and this body of work reflects the many steps I've taken to expand my skills and deepen my relationship with the medium.

Throughout this series, I’ve deliberately stepped outside of my comfort zone. I’ve experimented with unfamiliar forms, textures, glazes, and surface treatments, often not knowing what the outcome would be. Sometimes these risks led to surprising breakthroughs, and other times they resulted in mistakes, but each attempt has taught me something valuable. Whether it was learning how to create larger forms confidently on the wheel, exploring ways to create new designs with glaze, or testing new glaze combinations, every piece in this exhibition holds a lesson, a memory, or a moment of discovery.

Growth in ceramics isn’t always a straight path. There are moments of frustration, of pieces cracking in the kiln or sticking to cookies with runny glaze, of glazes not mixing well. But I’ve come to value those setbacks as much as the successes, because they push me to problem-solve, adapt, and keep going. That resilience has become just as important to my practice as technical skill. With each project, I feel more capable, not just in what my hands can do, but in how I approach challenges with patience and creativity.

More than anything, this exhibition is a celebration of progress. It’s a reminder that learning is never finished, and that there’s always something new to explore. Pottery has taught me to be open to change, to welcome imperfection, and to see each piece as a step forward. I hope this work reflects not only the forms and finishes I’ve developed, but also the energy and intention behind them, the drive to keep growing, and the joy of discovering what’s possible.
